Brief Rundown of My Summer

Well, for those who have been asking about this blog, I guess I'll finally break down and take the time to write a little about my summer. After a long trip back from an amazing school year at Southern Adventist University, I finally had my 4 wisdom teeth removed. Surprisingly it wasn't as bad as I anticipated, so in a couple of days I was back working for my sister in horticulture/landscaping. Along with that, in the evenings I was helping cook at our local Adventist HS, Great Plains Academy. When the academy school year came to a close, I began focusing on preparations for Thailand. Many of you know I'll be spending 9 months in Thailand as a student missionary doing basic medical work and health training. I was originally scheduled to leave around the middle of June, but for various reasons I felt God wanted me to leave later. Now I will be flying out on September 14th with a couple others from Southern. In total there are 10 of us in the group. About three of them will be filming our work in order to produce a television series that may be shown on 3ABN under the title Thailand Face to Face. I know it will be a growing experience and the lessons I learn will be invaluable.
In June my summer progressed with a quick weekend trip to camp meeting (Lincoln, NE) to see a couple of my favorite singers, Andrew Peterson and Andy Gullahorn, in concert. At the end of the month my sister and I celebrated our birthdays. I am now 21 and can do everything I never wanted to do! At this point in the summer my days consisted mainly of work and not much else, so I decided to start running again. Leaving at 5:30 in the morning I ran from Enterprise KS, to Abilene, the next town over, which is a healthy 8 miles. It was definitely not something I could keep up every day, so I settled for 3 times a week. Lately things have been busier and my knee has been giving me trouble so I haven't been as consistent, but it was fun for the couple months that it lasted!
I guess I'll wrap up this "brief" rundown by saying I also attended a wedding, took a trip to Arkansas to visit a friend from Southern, went to a rodeo (yee-haw) & and a demo derby (which is the most redneck thing I've ever seen), & now I'm working as the assistant girls dean at the academy for 3 weeks before I leave. Apparently the official assistant is coming late, so they asked me to fill in. Should be fun! So with landscaping, assistant deaning, and Thailand plans, oh! and watching the Olympics every spare chance I get, I'd say my days are pretty full! I'm sure you can all relate. Well, I hope your summers are going great as well! I'll try to do a little better on keeping you all posted with what's going on here in the Kansas plains! Take care & God bless.
